Blacktoft Beacon Scouts is pleased to share an update about the District Youth Team, as we prepare for an important transition later this year.
As Rory reaches the age of 25 this summer, his term as District Youth Lead will come to an end in line with Scouts’ youth leadership structure. Over the past year, Rory has worked hard to establish a District Youth Team, bringing together Kai and Mary to help strengthen youth representation across the district.
We’re delighted that Kai and Mary will continue this work, ensuring that the voice of young people remains central to decision-making across Blacktoft Beacon Scouts.
Meet Our New District Youth Lead
Kai will take on the ex-officio responsibilities of District Youth Lead, working closely with Mary and the wider district team.
Kai’s journey in Scouts began in Snaith, starting as a Beaver Scout and progressing through the sections all the way to Explorer Scouts. After completing the Young Leader Scheme, Kai continued volunteering as a leader and is now also part of the County Young Leader Team, supporting and developing young leaders across the county.
Speaking about the new role, Kai said they are most looking forward to:
“Meeting all the groups across the district, helping with their programmes, and supporting every group to achieve what they can.”
Kai is particularly keen to support groups with the YouShape Award, helping ensure young people have a real say in shaping their own Scouting experience.
Looking Ahead
Rory will remain in post as District Youth Lead until the District AGM in July. At that point, he will take on a new role as District Programme Lead.
In this role, Rory will oversee Programme Support and the District Events Team, helping to strengthen the quality and consistency of programme delivery across the district. More details about Rory’s plans for the role will be shared later in the year.
